This year Big Energy Saving Week falls on Monday 21st January 2019 – Sunday 27th January 2019. It is a national campaign focused on helping people cutting their energy bills and getting the financial support they’re entitled to. As you know, CCM is all about saving energy and doing what’s right for the environment so we encourage all businesses to check, switch and save!
We encourage energy providers to consider switching energy providers as this could lead to great savings. A handful of businesses may not know that a large proportion of their energy is being wasted, meaning they could be paying much more than they should be. In fact, by making a few simple adjustments, business owners could significantly cut their energy bills. However, if you’re happy with your current provider or your contract isn’t up for renewal, you can think about how else your business can save on its ongoing energy costs.
Here are 3 simple steps you can follow to help your business save energy this year.
Taking some time to see what your business is paying the most for will help you make the necessary changes in order for you to save money. Energy suppliers will contact customers once a year to alert you to the cheapest tariffs that they have available that you would benefit from. It’s also worth finding out if you could save some money by using a different payment method. Often, paying by direct debit makes you entitled to a discount, reducing your bill and helping you save some money. Some suppliers also give discounts if you choose to receive your bills online as it helps them cut down on paper. This is something worth checking – so contact your supplier directly to find out if there’s a better way for you to pay and save money at the same time.
Most people are under the impression that switching energy tariffs is a time consuming and hassling process, well this isn’t the case. The quickest and easiest way to switch is online. It is important to shop around for the best deal. Taking the time to search for deal may help you find a more reliable and affordable tariff for your business. There are a number of online comparison tools that will help find the most suitable deal for your business.
The best way to save money is to save energy in your business – no rocket science there. There are various things that can be done to make your business more energy efficient, this includes using double glazed windows, switching off computers when not in use and printing documents double-sided. There are plenty of adjustments that can be made to save energy in your business, so just because it’s Big Energy Saving Week we’re giving you some helpful tips so you can save energy too!
1.Switch to energy saving light bulbs
We encourage businesses to invest in greener bulbs, they will cut energy usage and save money. Energy saving light bulbs use up to 80% less energy than standard lamps and they don’t need to be replaced as often either, so you could keep your maintenance bills down.
2. Install motion sensitive lighting
We’re all guilty of it. It’s easy to forget and leave lights on when they aren’t being used. Motion sensitive lights will turn off automatically when rooms are not in use. Make the most of natural lighting this summer by opening window blinds in daylight hours to cut back on business energy costs.
3. Adjust your heating settings to match working hours
Make sure your heating (and cooling) systems are only switched on when they need to be. Most systems nowadays have timer settings so they can be set automatically.
